Access

You will of course already being using whatever technologies and software are most relevant to your own field of study. In your new institutional role. however, you may find that the way you access this technology or software has to change, whether that means new equipment, new licences or new costs. It makes sense to check to make sure your ability to use these technologies can continue without a gap or unexpected hassle. Check with your department and your institutional IT service to see what your options are.

Students

It is also a good idea to acquaint yourself with the software and technologies that students will be expected to use (in general, but also for studying your subject). The kinds of assignments you write for students may be limited by the technologies that they can reasonably access, afford and have the requisite skills to use.
